Everything you need to know: Saskatoon’s University Bridge closure

May 2, 2015 | 3:50 PM

When is the University Bridge closed?
The bridge will close to regular traffic starting at 7 a.m. on Sunday. The bridge will be closed until Aug. 30.

Which lanes are closed?
Traffic from Clarence Avenue and College Drive will not be able to turn onto the bridge but both streets will remain open.

– The on and off ramps at Spadina Crescent will be closed. Traffic will be able to turn from 25th Street onto Spadina Crescent and from Spadina Crescent onto 25th Street.

What’s my alternate route?

Northwest to the university – use Circle Drive North Bridge to Preston Avenue
Northeast to downtown – use Circle Drive North Bridge to Warman Road
Southwest to the university – use Circle Drive South Bridge to Circle Drive to College Drive
Southeast to downtown – use 8th Street or Circle Drive to the Sid Buckwold Bridge
Core area- use Broadway Bridge

What is the city doing to help with traffic flow?
The city is making adjustments to traffic signals to allow for a more efficient commute along now busier routes.

Why is the city closing the bridge?
An independent engineering assessment of the bridge in 2013 found that the deck is structurally insufficient and the concrete is susceptible to rapid failure and loss of strength due to the freeze-thaw cycle. Immediate repairs were required.

What are my options as a commuter?
–    Take an alternate route
–    Carpool
–    Walk
–    Bike
–    Transit (All transit routes and access transit vehicles will operate as normal Monday to Friday)
There will be a shuttle route added on weekends and holidays between the University of Saskatchewan Place Riel Hub and the downtown terminal. The shuttle will run every 15 minutes.  The downtown shuttle will leave from the city hall stop. The routes west of the river will stop at the downtown terminal. The routes east of the river will stop at Place Riel.
