Carlton’s Sanderson named U16 Sask Volleyball Player of Year

The Carlton Crusaders senior boys volleyball team now can officially say they have one of the best players in the province on their team.

Crusaders setter Cole Sanderson has been named the U16 Sask Volleyball Player of the Year and received a pile of online congratulations Wednesday on Carlton’s twitter account @PACarlton.

“It sounds good,” said Sanderson during Wednesday’s practice. “All the hard work is paying off, I guess.”

In addition to being named the U16 player of the year, Sanderson also received school-wide honours. He shared the Junior Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year award with teammate Matthew Meyer.

“It’s also good to know that I have all those players on the team that make me a better player,” said Sanderson.

Crusaders head coach Jeff Court said that way Sanderson dedicates himself to practice and carries himself during games that has allowed him to receive all the accolades he has.

“Work ethic is number one, he comes to work every day,” said Court. “There’s no second guessing that, you know what you’re going to get when he walks in the gym.

“The second part is he’s just a great character kid… when you combine athleticism and work ethic, there’s some special stuff that can happen.”

The Crusaders will head to St. Mary for a tournament this weekend.
