PA’s Lucas dominates Saskatoon pro truck racing circuit

Prince Albert’s Scott Lucas dominated the Pro Truck circuit at the Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in Saskatoon Sept. 15 so bad, all he had to do was start his final race to secure the championship.

“It was very good. It was a weight off your shoulders, you know you want to win it, you know you can do it,” said Lucas. “But it’s one bad move out on that track and all of a sudden, now you gotta fight right until the end. It sounds goofy, but we did it.”

Lucas finished in first place in six of the first seven races of the circuit, the other was a third place.
To start the season, Lucas said he used all 350 horses of his engine to get the power he needed to win his races.

“It was go, I drove it for everything it had,” said Lucas. “Once we got up in the points in the last few races, we were just making sure that we were going to end up with the championship.”

In the final three races, Lucas had two fifth place finishes and a fourth place finish. Because he was so high in the points, Lucas made sure that he finished the races and took a more conservative approach. He finished 81 points ahead of Ben Pogoda of Saskatoon, a considerable amount as a racer is awarded 40 points for a first place finish.

“I definitely raced, I definitely wanted to win, but I didn’t push it as hard as I did at the beginning of the year,” said Lucas.

This is Lucas’s third year of racing in the Pro Truck division. He was rookie of the year in 2010 and finished second that year and last year behind Ken Ross before capturing his first Pro Truck championship this year.

Lucas has been racing at the Auto Clearing Motor Speedway since 2007, when he was the Rookie of the Year in the Street Stock racing category. Lucas won the Street Stock championship in 2009, then bought his Westar Services Silverado to race in Pro Truck events.
