Summer fair attendance lower than average

The numbers are in and this year’s Prince Albert Exhibition saw a below average number of attendees.

“Saturday afternoon hurt us a bit when that storm rolled in, our numbers were down on average probably about 1,000 to 1,200,” said Dave Young, general manager of the Prince Albert Exhibition.

Over the five day fair there were 34, 633 people who attended.

Out of the 11 years that Young has been keeping track of the statistics, this ranks at number eight, he said.

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, there were about 7,000 people each day.

“The best day was Friday, we got over 8,000 people,” Young said.

There were no major incidents during the five-day fair, just some of the typical vandalism that unfortunately goes on, he said.

This year the exhibition teamed up with Prince Albert Tourism to survey fair participants.

There were about 25 questions asked of some of the exhibition goers to find out who they were, where they were from and why they attended.

When that information makes it back to the exhibition team, Young said he sees the information being useful.

“Oh I think absolutely, once we get it and digest it, there’s not a doubt we can use it,” he said.
