Celebrating 30 years of a healthier community with Hillside Physical Health and Fitness

May 23, 2016 | 10:45 AM

For the past 30 years, the staff at Hillside Physical Health and Fitness have been treating, educating and empowering their clients to continue with an active and healthy lifestyle.  The locally owned and operated clinic started out as South Hill Physiotherapy in the South Hill Medical building but with an expansion and move to the bottom of the hill, a name change was in order.  The new site features improved treatment space, a larger, more open gym complete with turf and great parking.

Owners Keith Zawislak, Scott Ward and Anna Rybka.

“At the clinic, all our staff are university trained, qualified health professionals who help our clients recover from any and all physical injuries”, said Anna Rybka, physical therapist and co-owner of Hillside. “ We strive to help people feel better, move better and perform better.”

If you are suffering from an injury – a strain, sprain, tear, break or surgery – to muscle, tendon, bone, ligament or any supporting structure of the body, the staff at Hillside Physical Health & Fitness are prepared to give you the professional treatment you need to recover.  Injuries happen in all parts of day to day life – at home, at work, at play, at school, in sports or in a vehicle and physiotherapy will help the healing, prevent chronic problems and return you to your activities as quickly as possible.

“We have a very short waiting list for appointments, usually only a day or two and with direct access, people can start treatment immediately,” Keith Zawislak, physical therapist and co-owner adds. “We always work together or as a team with the patient’s physician. However, if that patient cannot get in to see their physician for some time they can come in and see us so that we can assess and treat and get their rehab started. We then pass along our findings and treatment plan to the physician.”

Fitness and athletic training are also key areas of focus at Hillside Physical Health & Fitness.  “We have a fully equipped gym with a noncompetitive atmosphere” states Scott Ward, exercise therapist and co-owner.  The gym features a selection of cardiovascular and strength training options, with the turf used for sprinting, sled work and agility training.  Monthly gym memberships are available to the public as well as personal training services with their Kinesiology graduates: dry land training for any sport you may be involved in, small group training and noon fit blitz groups led by a qualified professional and one on one personal training to help you meet your goals.

Hillside Physical Health and Fitness takes great pride in supporting the community.  Over the past 30 years they have been quick to support large projects including the Alfred Jenkins Field House, Max Clunie Field lights and the “Bring Back the Magic” Campaign for the Art Hauser Centre.  They have supported local teams financially – such as donating to various sports teams to help them travel to national championships.  The staff also provides sports medicine services at the PBR both here and in Saskatoon each year.  You will often see them on the sidelines of sporting activities in the city acting as trainers and sports medicine personnel for our local teams and schools. Exercise Therapist Christina Vis has also worked with the A & W Bears this past winter as their trainer.

A new focus for Hillside is comprehensive management of concussions.  This past winter they provided concussion baseline testing for the Bantam and Midget AA hockey teams in Prince Albert and have just completed the same testing for the Prince Albert Minor Football (River Rider) players.  They have plans to expand this service to other sports as well.  Concussion baseline testing, injury assessment, treatment and return to activity planning following a concussion is offered by the clinic.  To improve the understanding of concussions  Hillside Physical Health & Fitness is holding a free concussion seminar that is open to the public  and will feature two guest speakers from Saskatoon.  The seminar will take place May 31st at 7:00pm, look for more information on the clinic website www.hillsidehealth.ca.
