Mascot wanted

Sep 17, 2011 | 12:07 PM

The Prince Albert Raiders are looking to fill some pretty big shoes.

“We are looking for Riley the Raider,” said Carrie Georgeson, business executive and community relations with the Raiders.

She said aside from a height requirement of five feet, seven inches, the only prerequisite to be the mascot is energy and enthusiasm.

“Somebody outside the box, loves to have fun, it not afraid to try new things,” Georgeson said.

“It’s a bit of a challenge because you can’t vocally express your feelings, (so it has to be) somebody who can be animated and looking … to take the bull by the horn and get the fans into the game.

“They’re there to help our fans get into the game, which really helps our players, they can feed off of the excitement and having someone there to start chants and be visible is something positive that we like in our games.”

Riley is at all of the Raiders 36 home games, as well as community events, birthday parties and even the annual Prince Albert Mascot Olympics.

“(We) prove that we have the best mascot in town, which is fun,” Georgeson said.

Throughout the season, Riley the Raider skates, climbs up on things and starts the wave and various chants to encourage the team, she said.

There have been many different people being the Raider mascot mask over the past few years.

Usually it’s students who have then gone on to school, or in the case of last year’s Riley, he went on to work in the Raider’s office.

According to the job posting no previous experience is required, but people must be able to interact well with children and be animated. If people are interested in seeing if they’ve got what it takes to be the next Riley the Raider, they can contact Georgeson at 765-2830 and email resume to georgeson@raiderhockey.com
