Dates announced for Stanley trial

Aug 2, 2017 | 2:11 PM

The trial dates have been set for early 2018 for Biggar-area farmer Gerald Stanley’s case.

Stanley, 55, is facing a charge of second-degree murder related to the death of 22-year-old Colten Boushie.

Boushie died from a gunshot wound on Stanley’s property during an incident on Aug. 9, 2016.

Prior to the trial, the court has set a voir dire to hear preliminary motions from November 20 to December 1.

A three-day preliminary hearing at provincial court in North Battleford this past April determined there was enough evidence to proceed to trial. No details of the hearing were made public due to a court-ordered ban.

Stanley’s trial dates are scheduled for Jan. 29 to Feb. 15, 2018, at Court of Queen’s Bench in Battleford.

None of the allegations against Stanley have been proven in court.
