Popeyes plans Prince Albert opening

Popeyes Louisiana Chicken is set to open in Prince Albert next month, the third franchise to be built in Saskatchewan in recent years.

Atiq Ahmad is president of the AA Group of Companies, which owns the three Saskatchewan locations and also operates a number of Popeyes locations across Ontario.

He told paNOW that he is looking forward to bringing the franchise to Prince Albert. A soft opening is planned for June 20.

“The people from Prince Albert, they are chicken lovers, and I know that we have the best chicken,” Ahmad said. “I’m very much confident that Prince Albert will be a big and great market for our brand and for our business.”

The new Popeyes will be located in the Cornerstone area of Prince Albert. The new restaurant will be approximately 2,500 square feet and will include a drive-through, Ahmad said. The company is currently hiring for a number of positions, including general manager, assistant manager, chef supervisor, kitchen supervisor and cashiers.

Ahmad said approximately 70 employees will be needed at the new location. He added the company has a training program for new employees.

“Definitely, we need more people … And I always bring, like 10 people of my team from Ontario, and they do the training, on the job training, and I have my own training centre also in Saskatoon to do the certifications of the managers,” he said.

Once opened, Popeyes will be open 11 a.m. to midnight daily, seven days a week. Ahmad said the Popeyes menu features a number of chicken choices, plus a variety of other meal options, including corn on the cob, French fries, onion rings, mashed potatoes, beans and rice, and seafood.

“We have a good menu, a good size of menu and it’s very affordable, very economical and the product standard is really good,” Ahmad added.

Ahmad said he’s already planning a second location for both Saskatoon and Regina as well.
