Local triathlete proves age is just a number
A 63-year-old Prince Albert woman has conquered one of the toughest challenges Saskatchewan has to offer: the Frank Dunn Triathlon.
Valerie Horner finished first in her age category last Sunday with a time of five hours, 19 minutes and one second. Despite some initial concerns about wind and smoke, Horner said the course conditions were very good.
“We were forecasted for 55 km/hr plus winds and I don’t think they materialized,” she said. “The swim was fairly flat.”
2018 marked Horner’s 16th consecutive year participating in the event. She said she had considered making it her last, but now wants to come back again next year to improve on her performance.
