Shellbrook Hospital closed this weekend

Oct 31, 2011 | 5:10 PM

The emergency department at Shellbrook Hospital will not open this weekend due to an ongoing shortage of doctors in the community.

Although the department has been closed during the week, there has been coverage to keep it open on weekends since physicians left the town in August.

Emergency Services at Shellbrook Hospital are set to resume Nov. 11 at 8 a.m. for that weekend and return to their regular weekend hours of 6 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Monday for the rest of November.

Ambulances are bypassing Shellbrook during the times the emergency room is closed.

According to a press release from the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region, they are working with the Town of Shellbrook to operate a primary health care clinic with doctors visiting from Prince Albert and a nurse practitioner.

This clinic is located in the current physician clinic location across from the Shellbrook Hospital.

The hours of operation at the two medical clinics is 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, excluding statutory holidays. Area residents can call one of the two medical clinics for appointments:

Shellbrook Medical Clinic, with Dr. Fourie and Dr. Nguegno, at 747-2171, or Shellbrook Primary Care Clinic at 747-2552.
