Maurice Richard “Moe” Armstrong
January 20, 1930 – September 4, 2026
It is with great sadness that the family of Maurice Richard “Moe” Armstrong announces his passing on September 4, 2026, at Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, at the age of 96.
Moe was born on January 20, 1930, in Star City, Saskatchewan, to Elizabeth and Hillyard Armstrong. From an early age, he developed a strong work ethic, a love of the outdoors, and a natural ability to tackle just about any challenge that came his way.
Moe began his working life farming near Star City. In 1951, Moe married the love of his life, Florence Lindsay, in Arborfield, Saskatchewan. Together, they built a life filled with hard work, shared adventures, and lasting memories. On August 18, 2026, just weeks before his passing, Moe and Flo celebrated an extraordinary milestone—their 75th wedding anniversary. Their enduring marriage was a testament to a lifetime of love, commitment, and partnership. Together, Moe and Flo raised three children: Brian, Maureen, and Charlene. However, his life took an unexpected turn when he was involved in a serious boating accident. After being run over by a motorboat and suffering significant injuries from its propeller, Moe was left with a sensitivity to dust and chemicals that eventually made farming difficult.
In 1973, while holidaying in Waskesiu, Moe and his wife, Flo, discovered a business that was for sale. Having always loved Waskesiu, Moe saw an opportunity to begin a new chapter in a place that held special meaning for him. Together, Moe and Flo made the life-changing decision to sell the family farm and purchase the business that would become Armstrong Hillcrest Cabins.
Moe was known for his honesty, determination, and exceptional work ethic. A man of many talents, he was skilled in carpentry, plumbing, welding, and landscaping. His ability to build, repair, and maintain almost anything proved invaluable in operating the family business. Moe took great pride in his work and remained actively involved until his retirement at the age of 82.
Beyond his working life, Moe was a gifted natural athlete with a lifelong passion for sports. He excelled in hockey, baseball, curling, and golf, earning recognition for his accomplishments in several disciplines. He competed at the national level in curling and provincially in baseball, with his achievements in baseball earning him induction into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame. An accomplished golfer, Moe also captured numerous senior and super senior titles at the Lobstick golf tournaments in Waskesiu.
He is celebrated by his wife, Flo; daughters, Maureen Safinuk and Charlene (Loren) Sproat; daughter-in-law, Joyce Armstrong; sister, Ruth Rodgers; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Moe was predeceased by his beloved son, Brian Armstrong; his sister, Arlene Armstrong; and his brother, George Armstrong.
Moe lived a long and fulfilling life, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, integrity, sporting achievement, and devotion to family. He will be remembered for his remarkable abilities, his determination, his love of storytelling, and the many lives he touched throughout his 96 years.
He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever cherished by those who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Moe’s Life will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2026 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK at 1:30 pm.
