A 15-year-old girl who was one of two youths charged with the murder of a homeless woman in downtown Prince Albert, has entered a guilty plea to manslaughter and is now awaiting sentencing.

The girl, whose name cannot be published as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act, appeared by video from a youth correctional center, when her matter was discussed Friday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court.

A pre-sentence report that will canvass the girl’s background was ordered and the case was adjourned to Jan 22.

The girl was granted bail last September, but breached her conditions and will now remain in custody. Her mother was present on Friday and outside the courtroom was visibly emotional and overheard saying she expected to bring her daughter home.

In the early morning hours of July 30, 27-year-old Daina Gauthier was assaulted in downtown Prince Albert. She later died in the hospital.

The male youth who was charged is also in custody and returns to court on Nov. 20.

Gauthier’s funeral was held on Aug. 8 in La Ronge.
