Rita Elizabeth Fee (née Pedersen)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rita Elizabeth Fee (née Pedersen), born November 9, 1946.
Rita was raised in Buffalo Narrows, Saskatchewan, one of nine children born to Madeline and Reidar Pedersen. She held many memories of her childhood close to her heart, especially the time spent with her older sisters. She experienced profound loss at a young age with the tragic passing of both her father and two brothers.
As a teenager, Rita and her friend Marie ventured to Ranger, Saskatchewan, to spend the summer with Marie’s family, Doris and Ray Fee. It was there that Rita spotted a photograph of their son, Arthur, and decided he was a man worth meeting. Art had already set his eyes on Rita. Doris took the opportunity to play matchmaker, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Rita and Art married and settled on the family farm in Ranger, where they raised their four children: Janell, Jason, Raelyn, and Dallas. Rita cherished these years, particularly the friendships they shared with their beloved neighbours, the Cooling, Buckley, Teer and Art’s brother Ted Fee’s families. Their home also became a home away from home for many of Rita’s nieces who came from Buffalo Narrows to finish high school. Rita wanted them to have that opportunity, and she welcomed them with the same open heart that would define her throughout her life.
Eventually, Rita and Art moved to Chitek Lake, where they spent the remainder of their lives. Together, they welcomed five grandchildren: Stephanie, Hailie, Reidar, Ashley and Carter. Their door was always open to friends and family who stopped by for a cup of coffee, meal and a visit. Rita experienced the loss of the love of her life when Art passed away in 2007, after 4 decades of marriage.
In the years that followed, Rita continued to be an active and cherished member of her community. She spent her days baking, catching up with loved ones on the phone (her line was almost always busy, and getting through was no small feat!), and welcoming four great-grandchildren into the family: Kinsley, Madisyn, Macy and Isaiah.
Rita was drug along on many family adventures over the years from trips to Buffalo Narrows to visit family, to road trips into the United States. And, in an adventure that took her a little farther from home, she even got on a plane to Mexico. These trips have given her family plenty of cherished memories to look back on.
There was no mom or grandma quite like Rita. Her family feels incredibly fortunate to have shared nearly 80 years with her, and her absence will leave a space that can never truly be filled. Our family feels that the world got less bright and that the biggest puzzle piece is missing. She will be remembered for her exceptional homemade bread and buns, her love of dogs, unique shopping channel purchases, and her always-open door. And, of course, no one could fret quite like Rita. Her love for her family ran deep, and she always had something to worry about or someone to check on.
She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. There really was no place like Grandma’s.
A Memorial Service will be held on October 31, 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Chitek Lake Community Hall, Chitek Lake SK.
