It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Donald “Don” Gordon Keir, who peacefully left us at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, SK, on October 22, 2026, at the age of 79, after a courageous battle with Cancer.
Don was born in Paddockwood, SK, on August 30, 1947, the middle child of Isabel and Gordon Keir. He forever cherished many fond and carefree memories of growing up in the village, where he formed close childhood friendships that would last a lifetime.
Always a hard worker, Don began his career as a Tree Harvester in 1969, transitioning to a Heavy Equipment Operator in 1972, a job he loved and continued until his retirement in 2018. Don moved a lot of Saskatchewan dirt and was proud to be a part of major projects such as the development of many northern roads, the Wascana Lake Urban Revitalization Project in Regina, SK, also referred to as the “Big Dig” and the land development of the community of Stonebridge in Saskatoon where his family now resides.
In 1969 the family cabin was built at Candle Lake, SK. This became Don’s favorite place to spend time in the summer. He enjoyed boating, waterskiing, fishing, quadding and catching up with friends and family around the camp fire.
Don married Marie Davidson on September 2, 1972. The couple made their home in Prince Albert, SK, where they proudly welcomed their daughter Amanda, born in 1986. For many years, she was Don’s Saturday morning breakfast and motorcycle buddy. The family also enjoyed many summer and winter vacations exploring North America together. Hawaii was a frequent and all-time favourite.
From 1977 to 1986, Don was a business partner of Keir Tire in Tisdale, SK, which was successfully operated by his brother Les Keir, and partners Valerie and Marie Keir.
In 2016, Don moved to Saskatoon to be closer to his daughter, son-in-law, and beloved grandchildren. He enjoyed socializing and during his time there, he formed many close bonds and lasting friendships. Especially this past year, he valued every phone call, coffee break, personal visit, or afternoon drive with friends and family.
Don’s greatest passions in life were classic cars and motorcycles. An avid classic car collector, he was a proud member of the Klassic Kruizers Kar Klub in Prince Albert, the U.S. Crown Victoria Club, and the Friday Nights Classic Car Show group in Saskatoon. He loved showcasing his treasured vehicles at car shows throughout Canada and the United States, cherishing the friendship of fellow car enthusiasts. Don also had a deep love for riding motorcycles, enjoying countless road trips across Canada and making memorable trips to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota.
As health challenges eventually made it difficult for Don to continue riding his motorcycle, he traded his beloved Harley-Davidson for an electric bicycle. He continued to enjoy the freedom of the open road, cruising around Saskatoon and along the riverbank with his best friend.
Don leaves behind his daughter Amanda Gustafson (Geoffrey); and his precious grandchildren, Aiden and Brinley, who brought a beautiful new kind of love into his life. He is also survived by Marie, his sister Lynn Toporowski, sister-in-law Valerie Keir, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and loyal friends. Don was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Isabel Keir, his brother Les, and brother-in-law Don Toporowski.
Our heartfelt thanks to the Physicians, Surgeons and medical professionals who cared for Don throughout his complex medical journey. We will forever be grateful for the kindness, compassion, and support you showed Don and our family. The difference you make in people’s lives is immeasurable, and your care will never be forgotten.
We extend our sincere thanks to the staff at Aspira Stonebridge Crossing for providing Don with a warm, loving, and caring final home where he was surrounded by kindness and compassion.
As per Don’s wishes, there will be no funeral service or celebration of life. He will be cremated, and his ashes will be laid to rest at Candle Lake, as he had requested.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial donation be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Martens Warman Funeral Home is honoured to be entrusted with the care and arrangements of Mr. Keir.
