Raiders snap losing streak in WHL Finals rematch with Silvertips

Oct 24, 2026 | 12:49 AM

One of the first big games cirlced on the calendar from the start of the season, the Prince Albert Raiders and Everett Silvertips were both a little desperate for a win in the rematch of last year’s league finals. The Silvertips had lost two straight, and only one win in their last eight games. The Raiders had lost six straight, and one win on their last nine.

This time, the Raiders fed off the moment to take the lead early, then protected it the rest of the way for a bit of revenge and the 3-2 win.

An early penalty kill gave the Raiders momentum in the first five minutes, and that lead to a Raider scoring their first goal in the league. Brock Cripps started the play with a great move from the left side of the blue line, then walked the blueline to his right. That set up Benett Kelly for a shot from the middle, that was stopped, but Kyle Obobaifo found the rebound and buried his first as a Raider at 7:04.

After the next faceoff, Cripps started another play 15 seconds later by stopping up on the right side of the blue line, waiting for the play to develop in front of him, then finding Alisher Sarkenov in the slot. Sarkenov looked off the goaltender, found Brandon Gorzynski on his left, and Gorzynski fired his fourth of the season at 7:19.

Then at 13:43, the Raiders scored again thanks to a great forecheck. Owen Corkish didn’t get credited for his work, but he and Riley Boychuk put together a combined effort to keep the puck in the Silvertips zone from behind the net all the way up the left side wall. Boychuk finally emerged out of the pile with the puck and fed Jonah Sivertson skating into the zone, and Sivertson ripped home his second of the season.

The Silvertips didn’t go into the intermission quietly, and they found a goal at 17:03. Brek Liske collected the puck inside the Raider blue line with a head of steam toward the goal and fired a backhand, that was stopped, and Reid Nicol cleaned up the rebound for his first of the season.

After 1: Raiders 3 – 1 Silvertips, shots 11-10 Raiders

The Raiders got an early powerplay in the period that failed, and soon after the Silvertips answered back on a powerplay of their own. Atte Vuori made a nice pass down to the goal line and Jaxsin Vaughn managed to swat the rebound home at 7:54.

From there, Bennett Byers and Michal Orsulak both went to work with great saves in either team’s goal. Byers was first when he robbed Maddix McCagherty on a cross-crease pass for a wrist shot from the left. Then in the Raiders end, Orsulak made a great save on a puck knocked out of the air on the rush, and another on a tip near the front of the crease from Jaxsin Vaughn.

After 2: Raiders 3 – 2 Silvertips, shots 15-8 Silvertips, 25-19 Silvertips overall

Brock Cripps opened the third with a shot that hit the handle of the goaltender’s stick, and shortly after the Raiders would kill off their fourth and final penalty kill of the night. Orsulak continued to make a few timely saves along the way, the Raiders failed to score on their third and final powerplay of the night, and shut down the Silvertips the rest of the way to earn some much needed revenge from last year’s final.

FINAL: Raiders 3 – 2 Silvertips, shots 8-8, 33-27 Silvertips overall

The win snaps a six game losing skid for the Raiders, and also extends their point streak to four games after three straight overtime losses.

Michal Orsulak had his best night of the season so far with 31 saves on 33 shots, including his biggest save of the night on a breakaway near the end of the first period. Orsulak also even attempted a goalie goal near the end of the game, although that didn’t quite hit the mark.

Three Raiders continued their point streaks with Alisher Sarkenov extending to four games with 3G-3A, Brock Cripps putting up his fourth straight two-point night with 1G-7A in four games, and Brandon Gorzynski reach five games with 3G-3A.

The Raiders are back on the road Saturday night in Swift Current against the Bronces. Game time starts at 6:00 p.m. with the Brandt Raider Radio broadcast shifting to 101.5 Beach Radio FM starting at 5:30 p.m.
