Sask soldier among four killed in devastating fire at CFB Wainwright
A Prince Albert family is mourning the loss of their son after a fast-moving fire swept through a military training area at CFB Wainwright in Alberta on Saturday, killing four Canadian Armed Forces members and leaving dozens more injured.
Pvt. Shaun Farrell of Prince Albert was among the four soldiers who died in what Prime Minister Mark Carney described as one of the worst tragedies involving Canada’s military on Canadian soil during peacetime.
Farrell’s mother, Patricia, confirmed her son’s death in an emotional Facebook post Sunday.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that our son, Shaun Farrell, has passed away to be with our Heavenly Father,” she wrote.
