A return home could not have come at a better time for the Prince Albert Raiders, who had lost seven of their last eight games. The Raiders welcomed the Moose Jaw Warriors, the team that beat the Raiders in their last game 4-3 in a shootout in Moose Jaw.

This time around, the Raiders felt in control almost all game long, but the Warriors managed a comeback and handed the Raiders a second straight 4-3 shootout loss.

It took a little while but the Raiders managed to open the scoring at the 13:55 mark on the rush, and although he didn’t get a point, Jonah Sivertson did great work to start the play by driving the goal on the rush. Meanwhile Riley Boychuk carried the puck in on the right, dropped it back for Brock Cripps, and he found Maddix McCagherty alone in the slot. McCagherty fired around Sivertson’s screen, and the Raiders had a 1-0 lead.

The Warriors responded quickly though because 28 seconds later, Nolan Paquette got a great feed on the left point and walked in, then fired a wrist shot to tie the game at 14:23.

Then the Raiders got their first powerplay of the game, and they capitalized at 17:39. After a couple quality chances to start, the Raiders kept moving the puck until Alisher Sarkenov worked the puck back to the middle for Brock Cripps, and he set up Brandon Gorzynski for the onetimer from the right side for his second of the year.

After 1: Raiders 2 – 1 Warriors, shots 13-6 Raiders

A high stick on Benett Kelly was missed during the play, but it was called once the play stopped and the Raiders got a double minor powerplay to work with.

On that power play, Riley Boychuk moved the puck to the left side of the blue line for Jordan Murray, and he fired a shot that was tipped by Owen Corkish and into the net for his third of the year at 10:56, right at the moment penalty reached the 2:00 mark.

Then at the 19:36 mark, the Warriors scored to bring it back within one. Former Raider Luke Moroz found Casey Brown sneaking behind the defence, and Brown rushed up the ice on a breakaway to score before the end of the period.

After 2: Raiders 3 – 2 Warriors, shots 14-7 Raiders, 27-13 Raiders overall

The Raiders came out of the gates firing in the third, but could not find a goal. The next shift out, the Warriors scored at the 1:48 mark on a rebound wraparound where Mathieu Lajoie found the puck first and beat Orsulak to the post, and Lajoie tied the game for the Warriors.

The Raiders poured on the pressure through the rest of the third, and Benett Kelly even hit a post convincing enough that he started to celebrate, but Jordan Switzer in goal for the Warriors made save after save to send it to overtime.

After 3: Raiders 3 – 3 Warriors, shots 19-6 Raiders, 46-19 Raiders overall

In overtime, both teams had their chances, but neither could score and it went to the shootout for the second straight time between the two teams.

The shootout went almost exactly how the one Saturday went, Alisher Sarkenov scored for the Raiders, Landen McFadden and Rasmus Kamarainen scored for the Warriors, and the Warriors took a come from behind win.

FINAL (SO): Raiders 3 – 4 Warriors, shots 3-2 Raiders, 49-21 Raiders overall

The Raiders are going to be off Saturday to travel to Brandon where they will play a Sunday matinee against the Wheat Kings.

Voice of the Melfort Mustangs Ben Tompkins will fill in on the broadcast, and you can listen in starting with the pregame show at 2:30, puck drop at 3:00 on 900 CKBI and Brandt Raider Radio.
