This year’s 48th annual Kyla Art Show and Sale will include a tribute to the late Kathie Bird, a well-respected Prince Albert artist who passed away earlier this year.

“She was such a wonderful, warm person; really just a lovely person to have as part of the group,” said Kim Morrall, a local artist. “She was such a fantastic and amazing artist, and she had this really unique sort of art that nobody else did.”

Morrall was welcomed into the group by Bird after a previous Winter Festival Show.

“I was like, ‘Wow, this artist, Kathie, she’s just like such an amazing artist and she thinks that I should be a part of Kyla.’”

Morrall said Bird’s support helped bring her into the group, making the tribute a meaningful part of this year’s show. Memories of Bird will be shared during the event alongside the annual exhibition and sale.

“We have a variety of different styles and different artists. You’ll get to see all the talented people that are in and around Prince Albert, and you get to support the local arts,” Morrall said.

Wayne Nogier, chief executive officer at Mont St. Joseph Home, said the facility has helped host the show for the past three years.

“We think it’s an amazing opportunity that they gave us, and a meaningful partnership has developed over the last three years,” Nogier said. “Every year it’s evolved a little bit into, a different date or a different time of day, really looking at trying to find something that fits in the community quite well … We’re super excited!”

Last year’s show drew roughly 400 visitors, including residents of Mont St. Joseph Home.

“We are a special care facility and, in our home, we have 120 residents. Those residents play an active role in everything that occurs in this building,” Nogier said. “Having it in this environment means our residents get to participate. We look at it as just an amazing partnership in the community.”

The show will run from noon to 5:00 p.m. on Oct. 3, with $10 tickets available at the door. Proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Mont St. Joseph Foundation, with the remainder going to the artists.
