Gearheads unite at Art Hauser Centre for 28th annual Klassic Kruizers Kar Show

Evan Davis is the president of the Klassic Kruizers Kar Klub and said that the show featured some vehicles that were both old school and new school.

“There’s a great variety from all over Northern Saskatchewan.”

He said this year’s show is expected to attract anywhere from between 150-250 cars, from home-built vehicles to ones that were bought off the lot.

One of the entries was a car that was built from the ground up, made from parts of several different vehicles. The mastermind behind the Frankenstein-build is Doug MacKenzie, who told paNOW he’s been working on the car for nearly a decade.

“I started it about, I don’t know, nine years ago, just trying to gather parts,” he explained. “It’s on a [Ford] Model A frame, the body is a ’28 Essex Coupe with rumble seats, but unfortunately, I had to put the gas tank and a battery in the trunk because there was nowhere else to put it. The motor is a flathead V8 out of a ’51 Ford farm truck, [and] I was lucky enough to get it and all I did was wire it. I didn’t do anything to the motor, and it runs like a charm.”

He continued that he sourced the parts from friends, farm yards, online, or wherever he could find them.

Next to him was Arnie Holmes and his very rare all-original Chrysler 300H hardtop coupe, which is one out of 435 that was ever produced. He said he owned the car for some time before gifting it to his son nearly 40 years ago as a graduation gift, adding he just bought it back from him recently.

He noted that he also builds cars in his spare time and being a fan of old Ford vehicles, that list of different car builds he’s completed includes 39 different Crown Victoria’s.

“Ford was the only one that made a Crown Vic, and I thought they had a lot more neat cars than anybody else.”

His collection also includes a 1957 Ford Fairlane convertible, which he restored with his son. He said the car was pulled out of a drainage ditch in Iowa before it became his.

The Klassic Kruizers Kar Show is on until 7 p.m. Friday at the Art Hauser Centre.
