Sturgeon Lake Competition Powwow expected to draw thousands of visitors

Thousands of dancers, singers, Elders and spectators are expected are expected to gather this weekend at Sturgeon Lake First Nation.
This year’s annual Competition Powwow commemorates the 150th anniversary of the signing of Treaty 6. With more than $150,000 in advertised prize money, it is regarded as one of Saskatchewan’s premier competition powwows.
“Our Competition Powwow is about bringing people together,” said Chief Christine Longjohn.
“Whether you’ve attended many powwows or this will be your first, we want everyone to know they are welcome. This is an opportunity to experience our traditions, commemorate Treaty 6, and enjoy the incredible talent of our dancers and singers. We invite families from across the region to join us for a weekend of culture, friendship and community.”
