Izabella Feher
1932 ~ 2026
Izabella “Iza” Januszewicz was born (we believe) on Aug 16, 1932, on the family farm in Sadzawki, Poland, to Bronislawa and Adam Januszewicz. It was required that all babies be registered in person in the next town and it took a few days for mom and baby to make the journey by horse and carriage. When they arrived four days later on August 20, 1932, that was the day recorded as her birthdate and forever on all documents. Iza passed away in her sleep early in the morning on Saturday, June 20, 2026.
Iza was a child when the Second World War broke out and Russian soldiers moved into their house and farm in Poland. The family moved into a cave dug into the side of a hill. Iza was the 3rd of eight children, and their mother taught her and her siblings all to read and write until they were able to attend school.
Iza was a good student and eventually it was recommended that she attend an arts oriented high school in Bialystok. So, at 16 she left home and moved to the city on her own to go to high school. There she found her gift for watercolour paintings. Upon completion of high school, she moved to Olsztyn where she went to work in an office excelling in the field of accounting. Eventually her brother Bruno joined her in the city. He lived with her, and she supported him while he also finished high school. In her job she was given more responsibility quickly proving to be a dependable and valuable asset. Iza was a feminist before that was a thing. She recognized her need for independence; she valued living in the city and creating a life for herself. At the age of 31 and after refusing several marriage proposals, Iza decided that moving to Canada to be with her sister was her best choice for the life she wanted.
She celebrated her 32nd birthday on the ship that arrived soon after in Montreal, QC. From Montreal she took a train to Winnipeg to meet Monika.
For the next year Iza worked odd jobs quietly as an undocumented Canadian on a visitors visa. She was an excellent seamstress.
It was around this time that Mickey showed up. He was a friend of Monika’s husband, he was Hungarian, a Canadian Citizen and lived and worked in Dryden, ON. Mickey needed a wife and Iza wanted to stay in Canada. Despite not sharing a common language they found love and companionship with one another and were married in May 1965, in Dryden, ON. They lived in Dryden for the next three years and their only child Arthur “Art” was born in 1966. In 1968, Mickey was offered a job in a new Pulp Mill opening and this little family moved to PA. They bought the house they would live in until after Mickey’s passing.
Iza was an amazing baker and cook; she grew a huge garden, made all her food from scratch and sewed most of Arts clothes. She took raising her son as her very most important job, but she was thrilled when Art found a wife and they gave her grandchildren. She wanted many children but sadly that wasn’t in the cards, so the addition of grandbabies was the greatest gift. She was fiercely proud of them all; we each met people who would say “ah yes, Iza told us all about you”. She loved that her granddaughters were educated, independent, confident, smart, beautiful women. She was so happy that they found wonderful life partners and she loved each of the young men as her own. She watched Jordan and Thomas’ wedding on FaceTime with the help of Tracy and Art’s friends; she was thrilled for Brenna and Keegan when they announced their engagement.
Iza maintained relationships with her extended family and friends. She spoke to siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends from around the world. And she told us all about you. She loved a good visit, and they were never ever long enough for her liking. Her phone was her lifeline. When she moved from Points West to River Breeze she needed to switch to a cell phone. It took some learning, but she did it. She loved to talk to each of you much, much more than she disliked learning the cell phone. She was a world traveller but mostly enjoyed her winters spent in sunny Florida with Mickey and her best friend and sister Monika. Iza was generous and warm, she was superstitious and a little eccentric. She was fashionable and beautiful and old fashioned and progressive. She was fiercely protective, independent, sassy and always on your team. We will miss her terribly. But we also know that her body was worn out and living in it was both painful and hard.
Mom, Babcia, Ciocia, Iza is survived by her son, Art; daughter-in-law Tracy; granddaughters, Brenna Feher (Keegan Mitchell), Jordan Feher (Thomas Germann). Her siblings, Monika Bezys, Antoni (Elizabeth) Januszewicz, Edward (Teresa) Januszewicz, Daniel (Irene) Januszewicz; sisters-in-law, Anna Januszewicz, Maria Januszewicz. Many nieces, nephews and people whom she loved dearly.
Iza was predeceased by her husband, Mickey in 2007; her parents, Bronislawa and Adam; her siblings, Regina Switaj, Bruno Januszewicz, Eugene Januszewicz, and infant brother, Michel Januszewicz.
The Funeral Service will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday June 30, 2026, at River Park Funeral Home.
