MacDonald Cup cancelled as Preds wrap regular season with strong road showing
The Prince Albert Predators closed out the Prairie Gold Lacrosse League’s (PGLL) junior season on top for the fourth consecutive year.
The Preds put on a show in their final two games of the regular season, winning 16-7 in Moose Jaw on Saturday and 21-4 in Weyburn on Sunday. PA ends the 12-game season with a 10-2-0 (W-L-T) record while outscoring their opponents by a league-high 56 goals.
The success was quickly overshadowed by disappointment though, as the team shared on Sunday evening that this year’s MacDonald Cup Jr. B Western Canadian Championship has been cancelled. Prince Albert won the hosting bid in April after winning the prestigious tournament for the last two years. It was set to be played in August at the Art Hauser Centre, however, a lack of interest forced the organizing committee to call off the championship.
Predators head coach Lucas Wells said it’s a huge blow.
