Dakota Flavel Curated Playlist for NIHM 2026

Jun 19, 2026 | 9:33 AM

In honour of National Indigenous History Month 2026 (NIHM 2026), nistam athisthiniwak osihchikīwiniwāwa (First Peoples Creating) showcases Indigenous voices and stories through music. We’ve asked Indigenous artists from all around Saskatchewan to curate music playlists that promote a mixture of both Saskatchewan Indigenous as well as International Indigenous music.

This is 1 of 4 different artist curated playlists that will be released for NIHM 2026. We encourage you to listen to the other playlists as they are released and to continue to support Indigenous music!

We welcome and thank guest curator, Dakota Favel, for providing this playlist. Check out the links below to listen now!

Dakota Favel is an award-winning Indigenous singer-songwriter, motivational speaker, master of ceremonies, and community voice from Ile-a-la-Crosse, Saskatchewan, now based in Prince Albert.

Recognized as Male Artist of the Year at the Saskatchewan Indigenous Music Awards, Dakota has built a reputation for delivering powerful performances that blend heartfelt storytelling, authentic lived experience, and memorable music.

Drawing inspiration from his northern roots, Dakota’s work reflects themes of resilience, healing, culture, and hope.

Whether performing on stage, speaking to youth, hosting major events, or engaging audiences through community initiatives, he brings energy, authenticity, and connection to every opportunity. In addition to his music career, Dakota is an in-arena host and announcer for the Prince Albert Raiders, a motivational speaker who shares his journey across Saskatchewan, and a passionate advocate for Indigenous voices and stories.

Through every performance, he aims to inspire people to overcome adversity, embrace their identity, and recognize their own potential. With a growing presence across the province and beyond, Dakota Favel continues to make an impact through music, storytelling, and community leadership.
