Marion Thorsen Love
May 10, 1954 – May 28, 2026
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Marion Thorsen Love on May 28, 2026, at the age of 72. Born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Marion’s life was marked by perseverance, strong convictions, and a commitment to family, work, and community. Marion graduated from Prince Albert Composite High School in 1972 and earned her degree from the University of Saskatchewan, College of Home Economics, in 1978. During her university summers, she worked as a camp cook in northern mining camps, where she developed her love of the landscapes and communities of Canada’s North.
Marion dedicated much of her career to public service with the Government of the Northwest Territories, later Nunavut, holding leadership positions including Adult Education Administrator, Educator, Director of the Human Rights Tribunal, and Director of Operations at the Nunavut Liquor Commission. She approached her work with dedication and a belief in the importance of fairness, education, and public service.
In retirement, Marion focused on her love of genealogy, cooking, gardening, and berry picking— activities that connected her to family traditions and the land she loved. Known for her strong personality, humour, and candid opinions, she maintained friendships across many stages of her life and took genuine interest in the people around her.
Above all, Marion deeply loved her twin sons, Nuquallak and Aapak, remaining devoted through every challenge and experience. She was deeply saddened by Aapak’s sudden passing. Marion was predeceased by her father, Glen Love (1985); her husband, James Arvaluk (2016); her mother, Grace Love (January 1, 2026); and her son, Aapak (March 21, 2026). She is survived by Nuquallak, along with extended family, friends, and former colleagues.
A private family service will be held during the summer of 2026. Marion’s devotion to family, learning, and community will continue to inspire all who knew her.
