Elrena Matz
1927 ~ 2026

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my dear mother Elrena Matz. Mom was born in 1927 to Leo and Marie Matz. She spent part of her younger years in the Shellbrook area and elsewhere in the province.

Mom was predeceased by her parents, Leo & Marie Matz; her sisters, Burma and Kathleen Matz; several aunties, uncles, cousins and friends.

Some of mom’s interests were anything pertaining to nature, she loved the great outdoors and all it had to offer. She also had a love for old time Country music, to her ears it was the best. Photography was one of her main interests which she enjoyed until recently when her health issues prevailed. Chatting with old or new friends made her realize how great it is to have such loyal friends. She was occasionally found in Smitty’s restaurant enjoying great meals and conversating with friends and some of Smitty’s staff.

Mom was a humble person, never a big show off, who had a big heart for the less fortunate. It is no surprise that mom loved company to which the Home Care workers could attest, they would casually arrive and leave with smiling faces.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Dale (Patti Jo Matz) of Victoria B.C.; her grandchildren, Kerry & Megan Matz of Victoria, B.C., Travis (Jean Matz) of Val Caron, Ont.; her great-grandsons, Jacob & Caden Matz of Val Caron, Ont.; her cousin, Sharron Preston of rural Prince Albert, SK, and all her very close friends who loved her dearly.
