Convicted Prince Albert man loses appeal of prison sentence
A Prince Albert man has lost his bid to reduce a 3 1/2-year prison sentence after a unanimous decision from the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal.
Jade Ermine must serve his sentence after being convicted of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fleeing police, possessing stolen property, resisting arrest, being unlawfully at large, and break and enter.
He was convicted in Prince Albert Provincial Court and appeared before a three-judge Court of Appeal panel on May 19.
In the appeal, Ermine argued the sentencing judge imposed a disproportionate sentence, failed to consider parity, did not give enough weight to his status as an Indigenous offender and failed overall to properly balance the objectives of sentencing.
