Mom was born on June 21, 1929, in Bengough, SK and was the seventh and youngest child of Bruce and Eleanor Hope. In 1933 they moved north to the Shannonville District and then in 1935 moved to Queen Maud District, where mom took her schooling up to Grade 10. They then moved to Weldon and lived at Joe Christopherson to finish her grades 11 and 12. In 1948 she moved to Weyburn to work in Weyburn Mental Hospital, which she decided was not for her, so she came back to Kinistino and worked at the hospital as a nurse’s aide.
In 1950 she married dad, Carl Powers, and they lived in Kinistino till 1965 when they bought mom’s parents home in Weldon. They were busy with dad working at Souliers Motors and farming. Mom worked at the Weldon Co-op, plus helping dad, growing a large garden every year, plus raising their three children Jack, Jean and Connie.
Dad passed away in June 1981, and mom continued to work till 1989, she then took her retirement from the Co-op after 22 years. She continued to live in their home until she decided to sell and move into the low rentals, then she moved to the Weldon Cooperative Care Home and then her final stop Jubilee Lodge September 2025.
She always enjoyed her yard and her garden in the summer, along with going to ball games and in the winter, hockey games. Thanks to her family, nieces and nephews who would come and pick her up to watch either family members play or just to watch a game.
Over the years mom was involved with her community and was a member of a lot of different organizations such as, Rose Hill Ladies Aid, North Weldon Hospital Aid, North Weldon Community Clinic Guild, Weldon Women’s Co-op Guild, Lutheran ELW, and Weldon Country Villa Auxiliary. She was on the Weldon Care Home Board and had the honor of cutting the ribbon at the grand opening. In 1993, she received the Canada 125 Commemorative Medal in Saskatoon.
She was also a traveler and in 1982 went to Ontario with her sisters Edrie and Lorraine, where they met a lot of relatives. In 1986, Expo in Vancouver, 1997 Hawaii, 2002 Hay River, 2003 bus tour to the East Coast and Untied States. She enjoyed going wherever someone was willing to take her.
