Games 1 and 2 of the series featured the Raiders hosting the Blades in Prince Albert, winning the first game 6-1 and taking the second in a 3-0 shutout.  

Powalinsky is currently in Regina at the annual Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) convention and said he has been talking to a lot of community leaders about the Raiders’ chances of taking the series.  

“I’m surveying the mayors from across Saskatchewan, and everybody’s convinced that, you know, the Raiders are the superior team,” he said.  

More seriously, Powalinsky said the Raiders team is a key part of the Prince Albert community, having been on the ice since 1971.  

“Quite frankly, the Raiders is such an integral part of our weave in the fabric of PA and when you have a team with such a long legacy and such a long history and as such, the pride of PA.” 

He enjoys being able to spotlight the team and the community further afield.   

In Round 1 of the playoffs, the Raiders beat the Red Deer Rebels, taking the series 3-2. The final game was a 4-3 overtime win.  

The team has had a strong season and won 50 games this year for the fifth time in franchise history. They finished the regular season as the top-ranked team in the East Division and the Eastern Conference of the Canadian Hockey League and second overall.  

The puck drops on Game 3 at 7 pm at the Sasktel Centre. Fans who can’t make the drive can watch it televised on Victory+ at the Canadian Brewhouse, Original Joe’s and Bugsy’s and hear it on 900 CKBI.
