Sedilla Rose
1939 ~ 2026
It is with great sadness that we share the death of Sedilla Mary Rose on April 13, 2026, at Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, SK. Sedilla “Seddy” was taken away from us unexpectedly after a brief illness.
Seddy was born on August 16, 1939, in Stephenville Crossing, Newfoundland. She was the daughter of Margaret and Richard Alexander and a sister to many brothers and sisters. Growing up, as one of the oldest children in the family, she spent many hours helping to care for her younger siblings. This was where Seddy’s nurturing nature began.
Seddy became a mother to her first child, Jude, and along with her husband, George Rose, welcomed three daughters into the world, Anne, Paula, and Kelly. Seddy and George began their married life in Stephenville, Newfoundland then moved to Labrador City, Labrador and later returned to Stephenville.
In 1977, George and Seddy and the family moved to Prince Albert, Sk. Prince Albert became the new home base for many years, and they spent time at Candle Lake with friends and family at their cabin. In the mid 1990s, George and Seddy decided to make Candle Lake their permanent home and many evenings were spent around the fire and playing in the water creating memories that will be treasured forever.
In 2003, following the passing of Seddy’s husband George, Seddy returned to Prince Albert to begin another chapter of her life. She was very active in the community, including volunteering at her church, bowling, walking in the park, Aquasize and reading. Seddy took great pride in her independence and was not afraid to take on a new challenge in life. During this phase of her life, she met her partner, Allan. Together, Seddy and Allan spent many years and fostered within each other new interests and passions. They spent many hours in the yard together gardening and doing yard work and enjoying Saskatchewan summers.
Seddy was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother and loved the time she spent them. She loved to dote on them and nurture them, and the kids have many fond memories of time spent at Grandma’s house for holidays and summer times.
Seddy was an independent and fearless woman, unafraid to step into the unknown. When life presented new challenges, she met them head on — whether that meant packing up her family and driving across Canada from Newfoundland to Saskatchewan in the middle of a harsh winter, or deciding one summer morning that it was time to reclaim her driver’s license. She asked one of her daughters to bring her to take the driving exam and she passed with confidence. Only afterwards did we learn she had been taking driving lessons in secret, determined to succeed on her own terms.
She was predeceased by her husband, George (2003); and her son, Jude (2023). Seddy was also predeceased by her parents, Margaret, and Richard Alexander; her sisters, Bertha, Joanne, and Thelma; her brother, Ivan.
Seddy is survived by her daughters, Anne, Paula (Rob), and Kelly, and her partner, Allan. Her grandchildren, Kate, Gwen, Mason, Emma (Tom), Alex, Aidan (Nicole), Owen, Nolan and Ben; and her great-grandchildren, Van and Ayla. She is also survived by her remaining siblings, Marg, Gerard, Lenny, Mimi, Cleo, and Bernie.
Seddy’s family would like to thank the staff of level 5 and ICU at Victoria Hospital who helped care for her there. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made directly to a charity of your choice.
The Funeral Mass for Seddy will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, April 17, 2026, at St. Joseph Parish, 260-25th Street East, in Prince Albert, SK, with Rev. Fr. Jim Kaptein officiating.
