Local curlers claim bronze at stick curling nationals
A curling duo from the Prince Albert area are celebrating their third-place finish at nationals.
Last week, Trish Bibby and Jacquie Swiderski returned from the Maritimes with some shiny new hardware after winning bronze in the women’s division at the 2026 Canadian National Two-Person Stick Curling Championship. The tournament ran from March 26-29 at the Wolfville and Windsor Curling Clubs in Nova Scotia.
Stick curling is very similar to regular curling with its own unique twists.
Like the name suggests, stick curling utilizes a delivery stick that allows players to deliver stones from a standing or walking position rather than sliding from a hack. Teams also consist of two people rather than four, with one person staying at one end for the entire game, throwing six rocks for six ends. Additionally, no sweeping is allowed between the hog lines and rocks cannot be removed from play until three rocks have been played.
