Another 10 to 15 cm of snow that is expected to arrive in the Prince Albert and Melfort areas starting tonight and clearing off on Wednesday.

The North Battleford is expected to receive about 5 to 10cm. with the heaviest snowfall occurring in the morning.

Meteorologist Chris Stammers with Environment Canada said a current weather statement on their website will likely be upgraded this afternoon to a snowfall warning.

“We have an Alberta clipper moving into the province,” he said.

“It does look like kind of a fairly significant late season snowfall for the region.”

Right now, the special weather statement on the Prince Albert forecast said the amount of snow that will fall is uncertain.

“The current thinking is that we’re going to upgrade that to a snowfall warning this afternoon, as it does look like we’ll probably get close to 15 cm in 24 hours for the area,” said Stammers.

Environment Canada doesn’t measure snowfall, but it does track rainfall and melted down snow. Normal for Prince Albert is 44.6 mm and the region is sitting at 48.9 mm right now before the snow that will begin tonight at around 3 a.m.

Along with snow, winds gusting between 30 to 60 km per hour are on tap.

Stammers said the snow will start melting soon however, as the temperature on Saturday is going to return to normal.

“By late in the week temperatures are back up near 10 degrees again, so any snowfall is not going to stick around for too long.”

Normal for this time of year is around +7C.
