Thomas Dalton Stacey
1952 ~ 2026
Thomas “Dalton” Kirby Stacey, born February 22, 1952, to Helen and Tom Stacey, and passed away on March 29, 2026, on his family farm, surrounded by the life and land he loved.
Dalton grew up in Weirdale alongside his four sisters and two brothers. It was there he developed his lifelong skills in cattle and grain farming, and learned to run fast, especially during calving season.
Dalton and Marilyn began their life together, along with Marilyn’s son Jason, and built a life grounded in family, hard work, and laughter over 47 years together. They welcomed Ryan in October of 1980, followed by Jan Marie in September of 1984. The years passed quickly as they moved south of Weirdale to their own piece of heaven, Stacey Farms. There, Dalton continued farming while instilling in his children the values of early mornings, hard work, and, of course, how to sprint when necessary.
Dalton was deeply involved in community sports, both as a coach and a player. His crooked nose earned from a high stick was a badge of honor. On the ball field, he was known for his speed and determination; whether chasing down a runner or diving for a fly ball, Dalton always gave it everything he had.
He had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor that left people with a belly laugh and shaking their heads at the same time. If you took the time to sit and listen, Dalton always had a story to tell. He was endlessly generous and always willing to lend a hand, give the shirt off his back, or help a neighbour in need.
The Stacey family grew with the arrival of grandchildren. Ryan and Jennifer (née Winge) welcomed Cruz in 2008 and Nash in 2010. Jan and Brody (née Anderson) added to the family with Grayson in 2013, Ellis in 2015 his birthday twin, and Kendall in 2017. Jason and Denise (Dearing) welcoming Dylan in 2009 and Lauren in 2011.
Dalton valued his neighbours and close friends deeply. Whether it was a quick visit in the yard, a long conversation over coffee, early morning phone call or lending a hand whenever it was needed, those connections meant a great deal to him. The friendships he built over the years were lasting.
At the age of 61, Dalton began a new chapter working at Wollaston Lake Lodge in maintenance. A natural “fixer-upper,” he thrived in the role and became well known for his humor, stories, and “Daltonisms” shared with new faces each week.
As a grandfather—known as Grandpa, Daltonator, and Kirbster—he was his grandchildren’s biggest fan. The two put on countless miles traveling the countryside to attend games and events, cheering loudly from the sidelines, making sure referees saw every offside and umpires called every pitch just right.
Even if you had never met his children or grandchildren, Dalton would make sure you knew all about them. He was quietly proud of them, but loudly and proudly shared their accomplishments with anyone who would listen.
Dalton was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Helen Stacey; father-in-law, Carl Hickey; brother-in-law, Dave McLachlan.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 47 years, Marilyn the backbone of the family and devoted partner in every adventure. He is also survived by his children, Ryan (Jennifer) and their children, Cruz and Nash; Jan (Brody) and their children, Grayson, Ellis, and Kendall; Jason (Denise) and their children, Dylan and Lauren.
He will be lovingly remembered by his siblings, Sharon McLachlan, Ruth (Ray Friesen), Peggy (Dave Hyde), Roger (Yvonne Stacey), Robert (Karen Stacey), and Jane (Derrick Elser); sister-in-law, Marlene; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. A private family service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Dalton’s memory to the Rose Garden Hospice, 500 38th St W, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 8E4.
