Raiders start weekend with big win in Calgary

Mar 7, 2026 | 12:39 AM

With three games in three nights and three emotional games this weekend, the Prince Albert Raiders started things off with a team they had not beaten yet this season, the Calgary Hitmen. It was a defensive chess match other than a seven minute stretch where the Raiders took the lead, but the Raiders came away with the 3-1 win.

The first period did not see a single mark on the scoresheet. No goals, no penalties, just solid back and forth hockey. The Raiders had a few good chances in the period, two of which saw Brayden Dube set up Owen Corkish for a onetimer, and a third when Ben Harvey was left alone in front but with not enough room to make a move around the goaltender. Ty Meunier had the best chance of the period for the Hitmen with a wrist shot on the rush, but he was stopped by Michal Orsulak.

After 1: Raiders 3 – 1 Hitmen, shots 6-6

It took until the 10:48 mark, but the Raiders finally broke open the ice and Ben Harvey was the one to do it. On the forecheck, Harvey found the puck in the right side corner of the offensive zone. Harvey passed back up the wall to Daxon Rudolph at the blueline. Rudolph centred it for Connor Howe, all as Harvey circled out of the corner to the right side of the slot, Howe found Harvey, and Harvey wired a wrist shot under the bar for his ninth of the season.

At the 11:21 mark, just 33 seconds later. As the Hitmen were trying to leave the zone, Max Heise made a great check to strip the puck for Owen Corkish. That would’ve created a 2-on-0 rush, but Heise already had a head of steam going to the net, so Corkish gave him the puck for Heise’s breakaway, and Heise fired a shot that bounced off the goaltender’s shoulder and in for his 25th of the year.

Finally at the 17:18, it was the birthday boy’s turn to score. After Riley Boychuk managed to win a puck battle below the goal line to the left of the net and send it back to the blueline for Daxon Rudolph. He walked in, picked his spot on the net, and fired a wrist shot for his 26th of the season.

After 1: Raiders 3 – 0 Hitmen, shots 9-8 Raiders, 15-14 Raiders overall

The Raiders didn’t get their first powerplay until the third period, which started with 30 seconds of 4-on-4, but the Raiders never had their lines settled during it, and that lead to a tense third.

At the 16:05 mark, Julien Maze brought the puck into the attacking zone and tried to split the defenders. He didn’t get through with a good shooting lane, but he did get close enough to the net to fire a shot that generated a rebound, and former Raider Harrison Lodewyk crashing the net found the rebound to get the Hitmen on the board for their only goal of the night.

FINAL: Raiders 3 – 1 Hitmen, shots 11-7 Hitmen, shots 25-22 Raiders

The Raiders won’t have any rest as they take on the Red Deer Rebels Saturday night.
