Warm weekend weather could bring both melting and more snow

Mar 6, 2026 | 1:12 PM

A warm start to the weekend will give way to some slightly cooler conditions.

Brian Proctor of Environment and Climate Change Canada said some warm weather will be coming through Saskatchewan for the early part of the weekend.

Much of the province will have a mild Saturday, with daytime highs ranging from 1 C in the La Ronge area, around 4 or 5 C in the northeast, Humboldt, and Prince Albert, and 7 C around North Battleford.

Wind gusts on Saturday could hit 50 km/h as the warmer weather moves in, and the wind direction will change with cooler weather Saturday night.

“We’ll get a bit of an Alberta Clipper that comes across Saturday night and through Sunday,” Proctor said. “That’s going to give us periods of snow.”

He said there won’t be huge amounts of snow with that system.

“I think we’ll see some patchy localized blowing snow, but I don’t think we’ll see a tremendous amount of snowfall accumulating.”

The system will also drag temperatures down Sunday night through Monday morning to below seasonal norms.

Next week, the temperatures will moderate and become more seasonal, with daytime highs ranging from roughly –4 C to –7 C, and overnight lows around –13 C to –15 C.

There may be a small chance of snow on Monday, but Proctor said there should be more sun next week than there has been the past week or so.

Overall, Proctor said we’re forecast to see temperatures and precipitation amounts in March that are fairly typical for this time of year.
