Young robber receives community-based sentence

Before fleeing from the store, the youths sprayed the victim in the face.

The next offence was committed Feb. 9, 2026. A man delivering pizza was attacked on the doorstep of a home by two youths who approached him from behind and were dressed all in black.

One of the youths was carrying a machete and the other had a can of bear mace.

After being sprayed in the face, the victim grabbed a snow shovel.

The youths fled and were tracked by police to a nearby apartment building. The suspects’ footprints were clearly visible in the fresh snow and both the victim and a doorbell camera provided a clothing description.

Upon searching one of the units, officers found the weapons and a pair of shoes worn during the offence.

Going forward, the youth’s conditions will include a curfew as well as programming and counselling.

The court heard the youth’s father was murdered before he was born, and the mother has served a federal sentence.

The youth had also been exposed and subjected to domestic violence.

There were no family members present, although it was mentioned the grandmother had been there for every other hearing.

Following his six months of deferred custody, the youth will be on probation for 10 months. He’s also subject to a two year firearms ban.

The boy’s lawyer stated he is passionate about playing basketball and wants to return to school.

Judge Lubyk encouraged the boy to engage in these positive activities and to follow his conditions.
