Agile gun thief receives four-year sentence

A man who entered a Prince Albert gun store by way of a ventilation shaft, and attempted to steal a number of guns, has received a four-year prison sentence.

Garret Sanderson, 27, appeared Tuesday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court. Guilty pleas were entered to break and enter, possession of a unregistered restricted firearm, and possession of weapons for the purpose of trafficking.

Following his release from custody, Sanderson will be subject to a 10-year firearm prohibition.

The incident from July 4, 2025, was one of several break-ins and thefts that occurred at the store over a two week period.

Sanderson was also charged in connection to the one incident and was arrested at the scene.

Police did a sweep of the business and following a search, found a stash of firearms, CO2 firearms, ammunition, and an assortment of firearm attachments.

The motive for the theft was not disclosed and Sanderson who had no prior criminal record, told Judge McAuley he was deeply remorseful.

Sanderson also received 344 days of remand credit.
