After welcoming two B.C. Division teams on the weekend for a couple intense, playoff style games, the Prince Albert Raiders play one more home game Tuesday night before hitting the road. The Raiders will welcome the Red Deer Rebels Tuesday night for the third matchup of the season between the two teams.

This is the third of four meetings this season between the Raiders and the Rebels, although right now the way the two teams are sitting in the standings, they would play each other in the first round of the playoffs. The Raiders have won the previous two meetings, first in Prince Albert 4-1 on Oct. 4, and then 7-3 in Red Deer on Dec. 6.

The Raiders come into the game on a six-game point streak with five wins in that time. In that time, the Raiders have a 4-3 win over Prince George, a 3-2 shootout loss against Penticton, and then four straight wins 4-1 over Swift Current, 6-2 and 6-1 over Moose Jaw, and a 5-4 shootout win over Saskatoon.

In the standings, the Raiders have a record of 45-8-6 (Wins-Losses-Overtime Losses) and are still the top team in the Eastern Conference with a four point gap over Medicine Hat. With nine games left on the schedule, the Raiders are seven points back of the Everett Silvertips in the top spot of the league.

As for the Rebels, they are coming off a 4-2 win over Swift Current on Saturday that broke up a four game losing skid. Those losses came at the hands of Edmonton 2-0, Calgary 2-1, Saskatoon 5-2, and 10-1 Medicine Hat.

The Rebels have a loose hold on the last Eastern Conference spot in the playoffs with a record of 22-32-4 on the year, sitting just one point ahead of Moose Jaw, and a full five points back of Regina ahead of them.

On to the special teams battle, the Raiders have not moved in the standings for powerplay or penalty kill in some time. Their powerplay still sits fifth in the league at 28.4 per cent, and the penalty kill is still 11th in the league at 77.5 per cent.

The Rebels on the other hand have their special teams in the exact same rank at 18th in the league. For their powerplay, it’s operating at 18.4 per cent, and their penalty kill is at 72.4 per cent.

Now with the leading scorers, the tie at the top of the Raiders scoring is now a three way tie. Brandon Gorzynski and Aiden Oiring still have identical stat lines of 27G-39A-66P, but Daxon Rudolph is now also tied for the team lead with 25G-41A-66P. In fourth is Max Heise with 24G-33A-57P.

Scoring streaks:

  • Daxon Rudolph has 2G-6A in his last six games
  • Jonah Sivertson has 2G-0A in his last two games
  • Brock Cripps has 0G-2A in his last two games

As for Red Deer, it’s Beckett Hamilton leading the scoring this year with 20G-28A-48P. Talon Brigley sits second with 19G-15A-34P. Then it’s a couple of trade acquisitions sitting third and fourth with former Edmonton Oil King Poul Anderson sitting third at 18G-14A-32P, and former Kelowna Rocket Calder Varga sitting fourth at 15G-15A-30P.

Red Deer hasn’t had any scoring streaks after being shutout two games ago by Edmonton.

Finally on to the goaltending matchup, the Raiders played Michal Orsulak both games this past weekend, so he may be due for a rest in Tuesday’s action with a three-games-in-three-nights stretch coming up on Friday. Orsulak boasts a record of 22-4-4 on the year, a 0.904 save percentage, the second-best goals against average in the league at 2.37, and two shutouts on the year.

Behind Orsulak is Steele Bass with a record of 10-2-1 on the year, a 0.911 save percentage, a 1.92 goals against average, and two shutouts on the year.

As for the Rebels, Matthew Kondro leads their goaltending tandem. So far Kondro has a record of 15-16-3, a 0.893 save percentage, a 3.33 goals against average, and one shutout on the year.

Peyton Shore is their backup with a record of 4-11-1 on the year, a 0.863 save percentage, a 4.37 goals against average, and one shutout on the year.

The Raiders will welcome the Rebels for their third matchup of the season Tuesday night at the Art Hauser Centre at 7 p.m. You can listen in on Brandt Raider Radio starting at 6:30 p.m.
