RCMP investigate homicide death of Montreal Lake woman

Mar 2, 2026 | 2:50 PM

Saskatchewan RCMP are investigating the killing of a woman on the Montreal Lake Cree Nation on Sunday and are asking for the public to share any information they might have.

The Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU) was called to take charge of the investigation of the death of Tanya Roberts, age 31 by officers from the Montreal Lake detachment.

Police were called at about 2:25 a.m. on March 1 to a reported injured woman at a home in the community and began providing medical help as soon as they arrive.

EMS was also called to the scene and declared the woman deceased. Her death was deemed suspicious so HIU took over the investigation.

Victim support has been made available to members of her family.

Investigators are identifying Tanya as they are asking anyone with information about her death to report it to Montreal Lake RCMP by dialling 310-RCMP. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com

The Homicide Investigation Unit, formerly known as the Major Crimes Unit, is part of the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crimes Branch.

The Homicide Investigation Unit investigates homicides, suspicious deaths, missing persons where foul play is suspected or likely, explosions believed to be of a criminal nature involving death or injury, and other incidents, as directed.

Updates will be provided when possible. If an imminent risk to public safety is identified, we will notify the public.
