After picking up a win Saturday in a gutsy effort against their rival Saskatoon, the Prince Albert Raiders played host to the Moose Jaw Warriors in a Monday matinee game. The Raiders were dominant all game, and that lead the Raiders into a 6-1 win.

It took a while for the Raiders to get the scoring started, but once they did it was the defencemen who got things rolling. FIrst at the 16:39 mark, Brock Cripps worked the puck out of his own zone out to centre, and he passed it to Alisher Sarkenov at the left side of the red line. Sarkenov and Braeden Cootes helped work it free for Cripps again, and Cripps streaked in to the goal line before firing a shot over the shoulder and in for his fifth of the season at 16:39.

Then at the 19:55, the Raiders defence scored again on the powerplay. Brandon Gorzynski worked the puck down low below the goal line for Aiden Oiring. The Warriors defence forgot about Daxon Rudolph at the left point, and Oiring fed Rudolph across the crease for a onetimer, and Rudolph has his 24th of the season.

After 1: Raiders 2 – 0 Warriors, shots 16-6 Raiders

Early in the second, the Raiders defence scored again. This time it was started by Maddix McCaghertyworking the puck off the wall into the middle of the ice for Max Heise, and he quickly fed Linden Burrett coming in from the right point, and Burrett fired a wrist shot for his seventh of the year.

In the back half of the second period, Michal Orsulak was given his best test of the night on a breakaway from Pavel McKenzie, but Orsulak made the stop.

After 2: Raiders 3 – 0 Warriors, shots 12-7 Raiders, 28-15 Raiders overall

Just 2:43 into the third, the Raiders were on the board again. This time it was their first forward of the game to score as Owen Corkish set up Linden Burrett for a onetimer from the right side of the blueline. His shot was stopped, but Evan Smith streaking to the front of the goal from the left and hammered the rebound on a onetimer of his own for his 11th of the season.

At 7:35, the Raiders potted another rebound. Evan Smith got an assist for finding Benett Kelly at the blueline, he shot for the pad and Alisher Sarkenov got the rebound on goal for his 16th of the year.

In the final minute of the game, the Warriors scored on the powerplay to break up Orsulak’s shutout. A crowd formed in front while Riley Thorpe got control at the left point, and he fired around the screen into the back of the net at 19:04.

The Raiders would still get the last laugh though because with 29 seconds left, Ben Harvey would get a breakaway and get hooked as he tried to shoot. That gave him a penalty shot, and the 16-year-old rookiedid nailed it on his first career penalty shot to send the fans home happy with his seventh of the season.

FINAL: Raiders 6 – 1 Warriors, shots 13-8 Raiders, 41-21 Raiders overall

With the win, the Raiders will not clinch the East Division title yet thanks to the Brandon Wheat Kings winning their game against Saskatoon.

With his 24th goal of the season, Daxon Rudolph also scored his 12th powerplay goal of the season, breaking Josh Morrisey’s record of 11 powerplay goals in a season by a Raiders defenceman. Rudolph is now four behind Morrisey for the most goals by a Raiders defenceman in a season with 13 games left on the season.

Rudolph along with Jonah Sivertson and Michal Orsulak will now head out to Langely, B.C. and the home of the Vancouver Giants to take part in the WHL Prospects game as members of the Eastern Conference team.

The Raiders have the rest of the week until Friday when they will travel to Moose Jaw for a rematch with the Warriors, all before returning back home Saturday.
