Raiders win streak snapped in Brandon in game over shadowed by Wheat Kings injury

Feb 14, 2026 | 11:46 AM

With a five game point streak and a three game win streak, the Prince Albert Raiders were on the road Friday night to take on the Brandon Wheat Kings for the sixth and final time of the year. A scary moment to Wheat Kings forward Joby Baumuller overshadowed most of the game, and there is confirmation that he was responsive and awake in hospital, but the Wheat Kings took the win 4-3.

The Wheat Kings opened the scoring 1:00 in. Jaxon Jacobson got the puck in the right side corner of the Raiders zone, then sent it across the crease for a onetimer in tight from Luke Mistelbacher. His first shot was denied, but Mistelbacher knocked his own rebound out of the air and into the net.

Then the Raiders fired back and quickly took the lead. At the 6:30 mark, Matyas Man picked up the puck near his own blueline after the Wheat Kings cleared it, and quickly sent it ahead to Maddix McCagherty on a 3-on-2 rush. McCagherty on the left wall sent the puck to the middle for Max Heise, and he then found Jonah Sivertson on the right side of the slot who quickly fired for his 18th of the season to tie the game.

At 13:40 the Raiders took their only lead of the night. On the powerplay, Justice Christensen fired a shot on goal, and both Jonah Sivertson and Riley Boychuk went to work digging for the rebound. Boychuk got the last touch, and as the goaltender fell into the net, Boychuk’s 11th of the year gave the Raiders the lead.

After 1: Raiders 2 – 1 Wheat Kings, shots 14-14

The Wheat Kings tied things up early on their second powerplay of the game. A pass came down the right wall to Nicholas Johnson waiting on the goal line next to the net. He curled out front, then quickly fired a shot fivehole to tie the game at 3:48.

The Wheat Kings then took the lead by the 4:27 mark when Brett Wilson on the rush down the left wall put a great pass into the middle of the ice for a streaking Gunnar Gleasman, and Gleasman tipped it in to give the Wheat Kings the lead.

A little under seven minutes into the period is where things got ugly. Matyas Man dropped the gloves with Joby Baumuller, both were throwing haymakers at each other, and Man threw Baumuller to the ground. Right away, trainers and paramedics had to come on the ice, and eventually Baumuller was stretchered off the ice. Again, there has been confirmation that he was talking in the hospital, but a scary scene that sucked the energy out of the building. Man was given a major for fighting, two double minors, and a game misconduct.

After play resumed, the Wheat Kings scored again to bring the energy back to their crowd. Again on the powerplay, Jordan Gavin got way too much time at the blue line before he passed down low for Jaxon Jacobson, and he tipped it in for what would eventually be the game winner.

After 2: Raiders 2 – 4 Wheat Kings, shots 16-9 Wheat Kings, 30-23 Wheat Kings overall

Early in the third period, the Raiders showed they were ready to push back. Just 2:05 in, Brock Cripps picked up an assist when he sent the puck out to centre for Jonah Sivertson. He came in the left side, then stopped up near the blueline. Sivertson fired a shot across to Linden Burrett who tipped it in for his sixth of the year.

Through the rest of the period, the Raiders continued to pour on pressure, but after killing seven penalties along with only two powerplays of their own, the Raiders put on pressure but they were tired and just could not find their tying goal.

FINAL: Raiders 3- 4 Wheat Kings, shots 14-9 Raiders, 39-37 Wheat Kings overall

The Raiders jump on the bus and head back home now for a Saturday matchup against the Saskatoon Blades.
