Jan 30, 2026 | 4:49 PM

A 29-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman are facing charges after last week’s shooting in Cumberland House.

The shooting happened at a home in the community at around 8 a.m. on Jan. 22, leaving one man with serious injuries. He was taken to hospital by EMS after RCMP found him following a report of an injured person at a business. The victim’s current condition is unknown.

Police investigation determined that two men with guns broke into a home in Cumberland House, an altercation occurred, and one of them was shot by a third man who was inside the residence.

The initial two men fled, while the injured man went into the business mentioned previously. RCMP officers remained at the scene, and Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services, Critical Incident Response Team, Serious Crimes Unit, and Prince Albert Federal Investigation Section were asked to assist.

At about 1:40 p.m. that afternoon, the man exited the home and was arrested without incident. Two other individuals exited the residence, with one arrested on separate charges and the other was released without charge.

As a result, 29-year-old Preston Crane from Cumberland House faces charges including discharging a firearm with intent and aggravated assault. He was scheduled to appear in La Ronge Provincial Court on Friday.

Meanwhile on Sunday, 20-year-old Jaidyne Lalibertey from Cumberland House was arrested after being spotted in a vehicle in the community. Officers found ammunition in the vehicle’s glove box during a search.

Lalibertey is charged with break and enter with intent, discharging a firearm with intent, extortion, and three weapons possession counts, and will appear in La Ronge Provincial Court on Feb. 5.

The investigation continues, and the Saskatchewan Marshals Services and conservation officers with the Provincial Protective Services Branch assisted with scene security during the incident.
