James passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday January 23, 2026, in Shellbrook, SK. Jim was born to Jeannette and Robert Lowes on January 30,1956 in Meadowlake, SK. They later moved to Prince Albert, SK where Jim attended various schools in PA, Graduating from Riverside Collegiate.
After High School Jim followed his father’s footsteps and worked in the Plumbing trade for three years, before starting a career at Corrections Canada where he worked for 32 years. Jim married the love of his life Bonnie Bird September 5, 1981, thereafter in 1990 Jim and Bonnie sold the acreage and house they built in Holbein, bought a section down the road and started “Buffalowes Farm”. Not only did they expand their herd, but expanded the family with James Fredrick in 1983, Jessica Margaret in 1986 and Corey Robert in 1988.
Jim loved hockey, fishing, golfing, snowmobiling, hunting and pretty much everything outdoors. He could be seen in the rinks playing, coaching or reffing hockey or watching Soccer. Swinging a club on the golf course or fishing many Saskatchewan Lakes. Jim’s love of laughter and his goofy sense of humor attracted many people to him.
Jim loved being a grandpa to his Grandchildren and all their friends. He loved attending as many Christmas concerts, dance recitals, hockey games, archery shoots, baseball and volleyball games as he could. But most of all he loved interacting and teasing the Grand kids. He often used the statement “NOPE, I hate you all equally.”
Dad was Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in June of 2024, which changed his life, but it never changed who he was. Because this form of Parkinson’s progressed so quickly, it became very important to him to help others facing the same battle. In that spirit, he made the brave and selfless decision to donate his brain to Parkinson’s Research, hoping his journey could contribute to a future cure. This was his final, generous gift and his lasting legacy.
Jim leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 44 years Bonnie (Bird) Lowes; children and Grandchildren, Jamie & Valerie(Acorn) their children Layne, James and Bryce, Jessie & Chad Mauthe, their children Kaydance, Hartlyn and Michael, Corey & Toni (Lavigne), their children Raydin, Sage & Ryker; sisters and brothers, Maureen (Glen) Wadham, Jody (Wayne) Woodman, Bobby (Shelly) Lowes, Trent (Terrilynn) Lowes and Kari (Earl) Kaye; brothers-in-law, Keith Bird (Kim MacLean), Brian (Dianne) Bird; sister-in-law Diane Bird (Michel Quirion), also numerous nieces, nephews, great nephews, great nieces and lifelong friends.
