Woman accused of stealing over $60,000 from KIN enterprises

A woman accused of stealing over $60,000 from a non-profit organization that provides programming and services for people with cognitive or physical disabilities, is maintaining her innocence and has opted to be tried by judge alone at Court of King’s Bench.

Kerri Silver, 34, appeared Tuesday afternoon at Prince Albert Provincial Court and entered not guilty pleas to fraud and theft over $5,000.

According to court records, the theft from KIN Enterprises occurred between April 1, 2022 and Jan. 31, 2023.

At this stage of the court proceedings, no trial dates have been set.

A preliminary inquiry hearing will first occur on June 9. This will provide a judge an opportunity to hear the evidence and they will decide whether the case should proceed to trial.

 As of Tuesday afternoon, Silver is representing herself.

Since she is currently full-time, she was ineligible for legal aid and was unsuccessful in her bid on Tuesday to have a court appointed lawyer. Silver argued she had been very sick and may have messed up her application.

Silver has an education background in accounting and according to information provided by the Board of Directors her official job title was Accounting Supervisor.

She was employed from Oct. 22, 2018 to Feb. 10, 2023.
