Junior sharks swimmers were on full display this past Saturday, January 27, and delivered outstanding performances at the Podfest Swim Meet, held at the North Battleford Aquatic Centre.

The meet was a showcase of personal triumphs, speed, and dedication, with swimmers ranked top three and setting new personal benchmarks.

Leading the charge was Ethan E, who had a dominant performance. Ethan powered his way to first place in both the demanding 100m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly events. He added a second-place finish in the 50m Butterfly and a fourth-place finish in both the 50m and 100m Backstroke, demonstrating impressive versatility across multiple strokes.

Savannah B turned heads with a remarkable technical achievement alongside her strong swims. She earned a third-place finish in the 50m Breaststroke and fifth in the 100m Breaststroke. Her consistency was evident with sixth-place finishes in the 50m & 100m Freestyle and 50m & 100m Backstroke. Most notably, Savannah achieved five “A” time standards in the 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke for 13-year-old girls, and three more “A” times in breaststroke events for the 13-14-15 age group, putting her within striking distance of the coveted “AA” standard.

The meet was also a celebration of personal growth and determination. Rowan A secured a fifth-place finish in the 100m Freestyle and seventh in the 50m & 100m Breaststroke and 50m Free. Lennox B showed endurance and speed with a fourth-place result in the grueling 400m Freestyle and fifth in the 100m Freestyle, achieving personal bests across the board.

For Lily K and Grace R, the weekend was defined by personal victory. Both swimmers recorded best personal times in every event they entered, with Lily placing 10th in the 100m Freestyle and Grace taking 10th in the 50m Breaststroke.

“The Podfest meet is always a great indicator of mid-season progress,” said a team coach. “We saw not just podium finishes, which are fantastic, but also incredible personal breakthroughs. Every swimmer who challenged themselves and set a new best time is a winner. The dedication these athletes show in training is shining through in competition.”

Way to go Junior sharks!
