The Prince Albert Sharks caught a couple of podium finishes at a meet in Regina this past weekend.

The Sharks were competing in the 2026 RODs (Regina Optimist Dolphins) Winter Classic against seven other programs from around the province, including three from Regina, two from Saskatoon, and one from both Moose Jaw and North Battleford. All events were mixed, meaning boys and girls were competing against each other.

“To see these performances after such a short return to training is a great indicator of the team’s commitment and potential moving forward,” said Sharks head coach Hazem Hussein in a release.

Ethan Everson led Prince Albert at the meet, capturing first place in the 50m and 100m freestyle, beating some swimmers a decade older than him.

The 15-year-old also placed second in the 50m breaststroke and third in the 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke. For the cherry on top, Everson scored an ‘AA’ qualifying time in the 50m freestyle with 27.24s, meaning he now ranks in the top eight per cent in his age class.

Sophia Walter and Maia Lofstrom both placed third in their respective events. Walter claimed bronze in the 100m breaststroke, while Lofstrom managed third in the 100m butterfly, along with fourth place in the 50m butterfly, and fifth in the 50m freestyle.

Mikaela Albertyn also had a strong showing, despite not placing on the podium. She finished fourth in the 50m freestyle and fifth in the 200m butterfly, along with sixth in the 400m individual medley, 1500m freestyle, and 100m breaststroke. Similar to Everson, she achieved ‘A’ qualifying times in the 50m, 100m, and 1500m freestyle events, meaning she now qualifies to compete at higher level meets.

A few other swimming managed ‘A’ qualifying times and personal bests (PB), like Bella Krasicki who scored an ‘A’ qualifying time in the 50m freestyle and also set a PB in the event, as well as in the 200m backstroke, the 100m, 200m and 800m freestyle, and the 200m and 400m individual medley. Meanwhile, Aubree Doucette captured PB’s in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, the 50m backstroke, and the 50m butterfly.

According to SwimSask’s meet schedule, the next provincial meet is slated for the first weekend in February when the Saskatoon Goldfins host their Winter White Out and Winter Pentathlon. That’s ahead of the Junior Provincial Championships in Moose Jaw from Feb. 27-Mar. 1, and the ManSask Provincial Championships in Winnipeg from Mar. 19-22.
