Pipeline leak responsible for Pelican Narrows water shortage

Jan 15, 2026 | 12:23 PM

The root cause of a water supply emergency in Pelican Narrows has been confirmed.

A significant leak is suspected on a six-inch raw water pipeline that runs from the intake pump house at the beach to the water treatment plant near the local school. Approximately 40 liters of water per second are being pumped from the intake, but only 12 to 14 liters are reaching the water plant.

A contractor has since been mobilized with parts, equipment, hydrovac, and excavation crews. The pipe is expected to be fixed by Friday.

Until then, water conservation is still required and the local school will remain closed.
