March 13, 1933 – January 6, 2026
With hearts full of gratitude for a life well lived, we remember a remarkable woman whose journey on this earth came to a close on January 6, 2026. Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and the enduring strength of family, and her spirit will continue to live on in the many lives she touched.
Elsie Kemp was born on March 13, 1933, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to Murdo and Elsie McLean. She was the youngest of seven children. Elsie spent her entire childhood in Saskatoon and proudly attended school with Gordie Howe.
She married the love of her life, William “Bill” Kemp, on December 20, 1952, and together they settled in Montgomery Place, Saskatoon, where they raised their four children. In 1974, the family moved to Rabbit Lake, Saskatchewan, where they owned and operated their own business. Elsie and Bill retired in August 1994 to Candle Lake.
In her later years, Elsie adored her dogs and always lit up when the therapy dog visited her during her time at Birchview Nursing Home. She was deeply involved in her community throughout her life, serving as a Brownie leader with the Brownies and Girl Guides, as well as being an active member of the Montgomery Place PTA and HMCS Unicorn.
Elsie was predeceased by her parents, Murdo and Elsie McLean; her beloved husband, Bill; her brothers, Colin, John, Alex, and Ron; her sisters, Margaret, and Katherine; and her son-in-law, George.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Alex (Isabel) Kemp of Saskatoon, Joan (George) Driscoll of Saskatoon, David Kemp of Candle Lake, and Jessie (Larry) Morris of Shell Lake; her grandchildren, Courtney (Jacob) Huber of Iowa, Mackenzie (Jonathan) Driscoll of Saskatoon, Shawn (Stacey) Kemp of Saskatoon, Heather Kemp of Saskatoon,
Christopher (Ally) Morris of Shell Lake, and Caitlynn Morris of Shell Lake; and her great-grandchildren, Everett and Lillian Huber, Carter and Cole Kemp, and Aurora, Claire, and Kyara Morris; special nephew, Doug (Marlene) McLean of Prince Albert; and dear friends Debbie and Dave Hunter of Candle Lake.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Birchview Nursing Home for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Elsie in her final years. Though she pretended to be grouchy, she truly treasured the friendships and bonds she formed with the staff.
As a devoted Toronto Blue Jays fan, Elsie would smile knowing that when spring training begins, she will be fondly remembered.
Cremation has taken place, with interment to be held at a later date. Condolences for the family may be left by visiting www.hillcrestmemorial.ca. Arrangements entrusted to Ryan Lensen – Hillcrest Funeral Home, 306-477-4400.
