Bruce Floyd Neufeld of Big River, Saskatchewan passed away in the early morning of Friday January 9th, 2026, at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Bruce was born in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan on February 10th, 1956, and was the eldest child of Andy and Evelyn Neufeld. Bruce spent the majority of his formative years in Big River, Saskatchewan. In his younger years he enjoyed sports such as hockey, football, and baseball, but excelled at track and field where he broke and held many regional records for the 100m, 200m, and 400m races. He was married in 1977 to Janell Dunn of Big River, Saskatchewan and from that union they had two children and subsequently five grandchildren that he cared about deeply.
Bruce primarily worked at the Big River Sawmill and had a number of different positions, but was known for his lumber grading skills which won him many awards over his 30 years plus tenure.
Bruce was known around his community as a quiet, stoic, low key person that was dedicated to his entire family and his close friends. One could find him sitting in his chair watching the ball game, in the kitchen barefoot making food for the family, or participating in hockey drafts when he wasn’t completely dominating his friends at the poker table.
Bruce is survived by his children Tyler and Weston (Cathy) Neufeld; his grandchildren Sebastian, Ethan, Gabreil, Jeorgia, and Cecelia Neufeld; his mother Evelyn Neufeld; his siblings Richard (Patricia), Garry (Lorna), Bonny (Jayson) Neufeld; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Bruce was predeceased by his father Andy Neufeld; his uncle Gerald LaPlante; his uncle Larry LaPlante; his aunt Rita LaPlante; his ex-wife Janell Dunn; and daughter-in-law Rosalind Blando-Neufeld.
A Memorial Service for Bruce will be held at the Big River Community Center on January 17th, 2026, at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canadian Diabetes Association (917 A Albert Street, Regina, SK S4R 2P6).
