Irene Mathilda Mclellan passed away peacefully on January 2nd, in Saskatoon, Sk with her family by her side.
Irene was born in Ormiston, Sk in 1931 to Nickolas & Clara Nelson. She married Lawrence McLellan in 1950, in Moose Jaw and they lovingly raised 4 children together in Regina, Sk. In 1968 the family moved to Saskatoon for 2 years and then in 1970 to their home in Prince Albert, Sk which she loved for the next 50 years.
Once her children were older, Irene got involved in 2 sports that she was passionate about, golf and curling. She was always involved in the organization of the leagues she played in and was very proud of her 2 holes in one, the provincial competions she competed in and the many prizes she won in both sports over the senior years of her life. Mom was an organizer and she displayed that skill in both curling and golf and felt very humbled to receive the life time member award at the Cooke Golf and Curling Club in Prince Albert.
Mom loved to bake, cook and try out new recipes, making lefse and special sweets around Christmas for everyone to enjoy. She loved to play cards and sew and knit and do crafts. She lovingly made quilts for all of her family and made many flower arrangements, wreaths for her door, mug rugs and other plastic canvas crafts. She knit sweaters and in later years, many dish cloths which often found their way to friends and staff at her senior home. Family and friends were extremely important to her and she loved to help organize and attend as many functions as she possibly could. She was a member of the Red Hats and enjoyed many outings with them and with other friends as well.
In 2020, mom had a serious medical set back and she moved to Saskatoon and lived her last years in a Retirement Senior home. Even there she was quick to keep the other tenants informed of special sporting activities on TV ( ie curling, Blue Jay and Rider games ) and their times and again became an organizer for her fellow residents.
Irene was predeceased by her parents Nick and Clara Nelson, her husband of more than 50 years, Lawrence in 2001, her sisters Ida, Wilma and Nora, and brothers Emil and Mag, as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law. Unfortunately she was recently predeceased by her son David, the week before she passed.
Mom will be sadly missed by her children; sons Doug ( Debbie ) in Swift Current, Gerry (Brenda) in Saskatoon and her daughter Janice ( Nil April ) in Prince Albert and daughter-in-law Mary Ann in Burnaby, 9 grandchildren ( Greg, Jeff, Angela, Jaime, Tamara, Sharlene, Matthew, Katie and Kyra ) and 7 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mom will be cremated in Prince Albert and a private Family service will be held for her in May, 2026.
