Man shown in video hitting small child facing multiple assault charges

The disturbing video posted to social media shows a young child in a diaper sitting on the floor crying before a man aggressively grabs them by the neck and then slaps them, knocking the toddler over.

The man responsible then stands up and walks away.

In relation to the family-related incident that occurred on Dec. 23 at a residence in Prince Albert, the city’s police service has charged a man with multiple Criminal Code offences related to assault, including choking.

He was not present when police arrived at the residence. Through continued investigation and with the assistance of Saskatchewan Marshals Service (SMS), he was later located at Montreal Lake Cree Nation and was arrested without incident.

He is scheduled to make his next appearance at provincial court on Wednesday afternoon.

“Due to the involvement of a minor, police will not be releasing further details in order to protect the privacy and well-being of those affected,” police said in a statement provided to paNOW.

Conditions are in place to protect involved individuals, the police said.
